After years in the industry, we know the issues inherent to prescription follow-up. Most of our prescriptions are hand delivered to the doctor's office by our patients or in rare cases by our staff. However, due to a variety of factors, it sometimes becomes necessary to fax or mail a prescription request form to a PCP. We are well aware that busy clinics can sometimes receive hundreds of prescription requests daily, and our process is designed around that unfortunate truth. We attempt to have the smallest possible footprint on your desk. That means no multiple faxes without calling first, and no unnecessary or repetitive faxing…and for that matter, no unnecessary phone calls to take up valuable work time from staff members at your office.
Assuming we currently need a prescription on a patient to bill for a requested item, we will speak with the patient and the doctor's office first. If it is deemed during the conversation that faxing for the prescription is required, we will give notice of an upcoming fax to its intended recipient, and we will fax the form. After 1 week has passed with no response, our staff will call the recipient to determine if the prescription was received. If it wasn't, we will resend it only if the intended recipient requests for us to do so. If the prescription has been received, we will wait on a response from the doctor's office. If a patient calls us during this waiting phase, we will inform the patient of the current status of the prescription by viewing our latest follow-up notes and if requested to do so by the patient, we will mail or fax them a copy of the prescription form for them to take with them on their next office visit.
We will not fax a prescription request for a patient who hasn't directly requested us to do so. Also, we will work with any individual doctor's offices through our internal coding system(which prints out on our Rx forms) to adhere to their prescription standards and requirements. For instance, if a doctor's office asks for only one person to contact them, then we can do that. If you ask us to mail all prescriptions to the patients, then we can do that too. If you ask that we only fax you a set number of forms per week/month/year, we have ways to track that and comply with your request. We will work within the PCP's standards for prescription follow-up to make the complex paperwork process inherent to our industry, as easy and painless as possible.
